Presidential candidate Tuggstar stepped out on the campaign trail on Saturday, the first day on the road leading to the
ultimate prize of election to the highest office in the land. The self-styled ‘people’s president’ was in East London attending a local school, and meeting with residents. Asked why he had started his campaign in east London he said:“I’m a local boy who is from the area. Starting here is what my campaign and ultimately my presidency is all about. I’m here to really give the people a voice. Listen to our collective needs and make it a reality.”Tuggstar was given a rapturous reception when he was greeted by those in attendance at the Nelson Mandela school in Leyton. In a manner usually reserved for rap stars and sporting heroes, the children and staff broke into a frenzy of applause when the people’s presidential hopeful appeared. The charismatic sharp suited activist, who has captured the imagination of his people , spoke again from his foundational belief of ‘Self determination and action’. He reminded the children of their great history and said he "would not stop till all African children received an African centered education".

After the event, Tuggstar set off for another engagement – this time at a local restaurant, to have an informal meal and to continue on the campaign trail. Restaurant owner Adele Washington was overjoyed with emotion after she had met her hero.
:“I can’t believe I actually got to meet him. I feel so proud to see a black man running for president, who you can really believe. He’s also handsome and funny.”
Many people are asking who is Tuggstar? In a country that has a long established history of privilege and inequality, this vibrant young man from the streets of East London, has literally come from nowhere to mount a campaign for high office, and seems to have inspired the people’s imagination with an idea that seemed only a few years ago to be just a fanciful dream.
People, who previously took no interest in politics locally or nationally, are suddenly aware of the black man from east London. People such as Eugenia McKenzie, a black school teacher from Walthamstow:“I think there are many people like me who had become tired of the lack of honest decent people to lead us. People who said what they meant, and meant what they said. This man is exactly that. He’s restored my faith.”The man himself has set out his agenda very clearly:“I’m here to offer people a real chance to make a difference, and build a future. I’m not here for the show, but to put power back in the hands of the black man and woman. I’m here to tell those who believe, it’s your time.”
Whatever the outcome his this bold campaign one thing is for certain, politics in the UK will never be the same again.
